Why Do Most Black People Keep Others Back With Their Negative Attitudes?

I am going to try to keep my attitude civil here on Black Talk Radio, but I will not
change my feelings about the behavior of my Black people, and most of you who
knows me that life is to short for the BS. Believe me, I am one who used to always blame others for not allowing me moving forward, and now I see a new
BIG PICTURE. There is young Blacks as well as older Blacks who seem to think
that they know everything. Our attitudes and behavior shows what we know,
and yet we want to blame the white man for keeping us this way. Again, that's
a bunch of Bull****. We need to all look at our own attitudes before we try
to judge others, and if we practice what we preach we would be better people.

Right On Willie Right On. I totally agree with you 200%. As a counselor I get a whiff
of (what I call nonsenses attitudes) all day, but I keep my own personal opinions an thoughts to myself, due to the fact that some of the bullshit I listen to is straight up from the basement, and its a shame that people seem to think that others is so stupid. Yet Brother Willie, We bitch about the least little thing. Instead of seeking
or finding a solution. We are at each others throats here on the internet like we're
in person, and can you picture the high crime rate if some of these internet badasses would meet someone like me in person? I whole heartly try to believe in my Black race, but sometimes my people makes me want to disown my race, and still we are sucking up to the white man's rules by doing harm to each other. Yes you are very right when you spoke about our young generation, but the right deal is how can we oldtimers change that, and believe me we can't charge the facts by running away from the truth. I believe attittudes are infectious; good or bad. If we want positive things, we have to first start with what is going on within ourselves. Once we work from the inside out we can begin to spread what is in us to others. Unfortunately, if it's negative, that's usually what we reap.

First and foremost, you have judged most Black people, what a generalization of a people. Secondly, It appears that you have painted too big of a picture with a broad brush, broad in a sense that you stated most Black people. Do you know most black people?

People only know what they know, therefore, in some instances that I am aware of, many times people are unaware of what they have done wrong, it wasn't until I called them on it, they are apologetic and many times sincerely didn't realize what they had done One must remember, it is a mind set, we as a people have not yet learned abstracted thinking, therefore, on many occasions, I find myself dealing with people that have a one track mind. They can't in vision because they were taught a certain way, be it religion, the system, etc, works in a certain manner. It is very difficult to uncondition a person's mind set's, especially African Americans that have been taught in a certain manner. I can think of a multitude of examples; however, I will use one that I feel most appropriate.

Examples, here in Calif. we have groups that are dealing with "Three Strikes Laws", Children Protective Services, Criminal Courts, Probate etc. What I've attempted to share with them is that these situations are only branches, yes, branches tied to a tree and the tree being the courts.

My feeling is this, as opposed to fighting different fronts; thus, keeping us divided, let's place all the branches under one umbrella and call it civil rights violations for being denied the right to Due Process in the courts, based upon the fact that all of the so-called branches are receiving the same results from the courts, which is the tree and the people are losing.

What I later discover is that a person is so fixed upon their particular case, they argue with you saying "the courts can't do this and that", or what does CPS have to do with criminal cases etc,.(They can't see the common tie is lack of Due Process, too busy looking at his branch) they continue to believe in a system that continues to blatantly demonstrates to the public at large that they aren't following any laws, this is one example of a person that continues to hold unto what they've have been taught . This ultimately brings negativity into the game because they are now mad because I am only attempting to teach them something, they can't see the obvious which goes to their in ability to abstract think.( sometime abstract thinking goes against what one was taught) Now we continue to divide, thus bringing about more negativity which ultimately produce new groups competing with one another never really accomplishing anything. Bottom line, this is nothing more than a mind set, an inability to have abstracted thinking and a feeling of low self esteem.

I found in my experiences that some people that I have known personally only want a title, they are ineffective, low self esteem, hold positions for ceremonial purposes and have allowed a group and/or a community to decline all in an effort to hold unto a title, all for self image. As I have often said, we are sick, four-hundred years of slavery, freed, and no therapy. What do you expect!!

Lastly, it isn't a sin not to know something, the sin is when you don't know and you don't know that you don't know. I could elaborate more; however, for the sake of not going negative myself, I decline.

First of all who are you to tell me that I am wrong? I am going to reply
back that you are not only out of your mind, but you are to ignorant to
admit up to these drivebys that is killing our people, and like I said we
(Blacks) are the ones who are committing these crimes. You are calling

I can admit that sometimes I can be wrong. So therefore to keep any ass biting

agreed with the Late honorable MalcolmX, When he said that WHITE people
will never understand our struggles, but they can join us to learn about the
struggles of the Black race, and today's struggle does consists of multi colors.

I do accept your apology and perhaps, I didn't articulate what I was implying well enough. All that I am saying is that all Black people have not been negative and sometimes when we taint the entire race or make a general statement pertaining to anything this is unfair.

Secondly, I never addressed the subject of drive bye's nor did I address the subject of crimes at all. I was simply giving an example as to why we can't come together and work together as a group. The subject of crime had never crossed my mind.

Lastly, I believe that I talked about mind set and abstract thinking, which has nothing to be with Black on Black crime. It is clear to me now, you mind was focused upon the crime within the communities, oh forgive me, my mind was on a a more structure level of working togethers. Apparently, their was some sort of misunderstanding.

Its NO doult in My mind that we might work together. I am a late person
when it comes to education, and I am going to explain what I meant by
being a late person. From the age of 17 to 52 I was caught up in the world
of Drugs & Alcohol, and getting a education meant nothing to me until
I came back into the world of reality at the age of 52. Since then I have
earned my Associates degree in Chemical Dependency, and this past June
I received my Bachalor's Degree in Mental Health & Criminal Justice.
Which is within the Human Service Professional field. I have been
involved in the Revolution since the late 1960's, and on my earthday
Aug 21th, I will be celebrating 40 years fighting in the struggle for My
People. This is why I often say having a good education, but not using
the knowledge is a waste of thought, and many of my clients have a
PH.d, and Masters. In closing, I am so thankful or the knowledge that I
am able to utilize, and on Dec 6th, 2008 I will be celebrating 10 years
of being drugs & alcohol free (with no desire to turn back). So
maybe this is why we are fighting the same struggle, but in a different
form of dealing with the many struggles, and yet we are dealing with
the general overall problem. I call it Social Behavior :-) Be Blessed,

Ok, you stated that the stereotype implies that most Blacks are lazy and want a hand out, well way isn't this same stereotype applied to whites? Being that their are more whites on welfare than Blacks. Noted, you stated that you live in the same community and some relatives of your's lived in public housing. My questions to you are simply this,"What about those that never lived in the inner cities and/or public housing or projects? What about the enviroment that many Blacks have grown up in be it non-black communities? How about those that have never been on government assistance? Where do these people fit?

Pardon me, and I might be incorrect, therefore, I am asking that you educate me in this area. First, I live in Calif. What I am hearing from you sounds like something in the sixties and early seventies. None of my friends are on public housing, they are not on government aid and most are living comfortable. In the case of my sixteen year old Son, he knows of no one that is on government aid, nor does he know anyone in public housing nor projects. it just appears to me that perhaps those old stereotypes from thirty and fourty years ago are continuing to haunt us.

Seriously, I need to know, am I wrong, am I being misinformed, are these same conditions that applied years ago still in existance today? Please feel free to meet me and teach me. If in the event you are correct in your analysis, then we as a race really have serious concerns. If in the event your analysis is correct, we must ask ourselves, why have we allowed the same elected officials to sit in these positions for decades, in truth, my heart is sadden.

Mr Lawson. You are so correct, and the mean thing is we must stop being in denial.
See, the word generalizing is another word that I feel some uses to avoid being
classified as being in denial (OH No I am NOt). Yet, whenever we don't speak that truth
its not helping the crisis and situations that's taking place in our communities.

There is a need for more Blacks to take a stand, and speak out against the wrong
doing that's destroying our communities. Again, most of us sit back co-signing that
its okay to sell drugs, due to the fact that its our Sons and Daughters who is doing
this, but we are not teaching them that they are making money by killing off their
own people, and to me (Being from the Streets) its like how would I feel if one of
my loveones die from drugs, alcohol, and guns shots that a so-called want to be
cool friend did to my people or close friends.

What kept me from actually doing these things was the thought that how would I
feel if someone was to hurt my Mother or Father? Nowadays, its the I don't give

Hopefully, Willie, will reply to your question, but I must add that those
who have NEVER lived in the innercity isn't really aware to the inner-
cities social/economic crisis, and unless one has experienced living in
PublicmHousing or the inner-city they will NEVER understand our struggle.
Even the late great MalcolmX said White folks ( Ibelieve that this would
include Blacks who was born with a silverspoon) do not understand our
struggles, but they are welcome to learn about our struggles.
Which means no two environments is alike. (The Inner-City-vs-The Suburbs).
Now the rest is in between Willie and you, and all I have to say is we must
