What do you think about this mother's decision to publicly humiliate her son? Is it too harsh or did she do the right thing?

What is the alternative choice, to let the child continue on his course and end up in jail, disrespecting authority and disrespecting his mother or just pat him on his head and saying "oh he is just being a boy" or "he dont now no better".

If it takes that do it. How many of us have done stupid or dumb things in our lives and our parents disciplined us in public and we did not repeat it? Didn't they do this in African villages when children stole, lied or other things? In some cases they cut off the hand or foot or took out an eye..

I think he learned his lesson... Oh by the way WHERE IS THE DADDY teaching him right from wrong... Moms are doing the best that they can..

I must say, that I do agree with you, and in this society, chastising children ("that ol fashion beaten") has been taken out of context, now its considered child abuse, but you made a very good point, and I do think it is time to "go back to the ol land mark".

The Video has been removed from youtube but the image shown tells the whole story. The boy was stealing constantly from his mother and other relatives and constantly lying to cover up his deeds. I think she was right to take this action after all else had failed.

Hmmm I think this punishment is harsh! While his mother may have been at her wits end if he was stealing all the time, I think this could damage her son in the long term

I think, he will not do what he did, anymore! He learned a valuable lesson, I would have done the same thing, just to save his life, save him from be incarcerated, beaten by police or even killed by someone else for that matter... we have to save our children the best way possible, even if it takes going back to the good old days to do so.....

There is nothing wrong in disciplining your child, but to publicly humiliate them as punishment is too much. There are other ways to teach our children a lesson. We parents do not have to resort to embarrassing our child in public. We never know, instead of ma king things right, it might just get worst. Children that are being humiliated in public are more prone to being rebellious. Spanking a child may be considered abuse (if done in the wrong way) ... but isn't public humiliation considered abuse as well?

This is not the right way to go ! Children should make understand logically. Tell them about the losses and profits of telling a lie. Please do not degrade them. Logic is the very alternative to this . When they can speak a lie and when they should not. Tell them the true stories about 'telling a lie' with love sympathy words
