The news is in from an independent firm hired to do an investigation of the community advocacy group ACORN. During his campaign President Obama promised to use the office of the Presidency as a bully pulpit to pressure states into treating gay couples seeking adoption as they would heterosexual couples. Black women angry at Tiger Woods because he prefers White women over Black women, is their anger justified?

The Homeless Need Help and So Does Adam Lambert and Our Youth - Nov 28,2009

If you have problems tuning in to this broadcast, please click here to listen. Sign Petition To FCC The American Music Awards was laced with profane language but the media buzz and public conversation has centered most on Lambert’s indecent performance. Youth tend to be more acceptable of most programming they see on television because they are for the most part, not mature enough to perceive the impact of certain kinds of media on their perceptions. But when you have 16-yr-olds commenting on the performance saying things like “"It was kind of really dirty and sexual, I would say," and "His fans are going to be like, 'What are you doing?' ", every responsible adult and parent in our society should take note and take action. Scotty Reid, Founder of the Black Talk Media Peoject chats with Mr. William Sermons of the National Alliance To End Homelessness, he is the Director of the Homelessness Research Institute and his areas of expertise include cross-disciplinary research, program evaluation and performance improvement. They discuss the plight of homeless veterans, families and other people and the need to provide them with services. We also discussed President Obama's goal to end homelessness for veterans and the 1.5 billion in stimulus money he earmarked for this effort.

Adam Lambert’s Big “Gay” AMA Show - Nov 25,2009

Click Here To Tune In IF Having Trouble The American Music Award's constantly shows the world why America is known as the "Great Satan" with tasteless, vulgar and profane performances and comments from artists. The entire music industry and its related television programming are in the gutter just like its sales and ratings. This is just another example of corporate media's agenda to vulgarize and brutalize our society. ABC, owned by Disney and Dick Clark are playing both sides of the media fence. Who ever is in charge of rating public television programs and gave this a TV14 rating should be fired. A vast majority of people who have responded to polls felt that Adam Lambert's performance was too much for television with must of his apologist being either homosexuals or children to young and immature to render an informed opinion. Some people are trying to make this an issue of discrimination against gays while others are trying to make it about race citing rap music. The point is, the show was rated TV14 and based on this year's program and past programs, has no place on the public airwaves. Yet while many are complaining about this year's program, they are not doing it to the right people. Therefore, we ask that you sign a petition to the President, Congress members and the FCC to fine ABC for broadcasting obscenity and vulgarity on public TV. The Prosecution of Former NFL Defensive Lineman Leonardo Carson - Nov 21,2009

Technical Issues - To Listen to This Podcast On BTRN Click Here Call In Number: 1-218-862-7200 ext: 629990 Was this a waste of taxpayer’s resources? While violent Mexican Drug Cartels were setting up shop in cities and rural communities across the nation, why did the FBI set up surveillance on Leonardo Carson for 5 years and why did they not have anymore evidence to produce than the testimony of two admitted drug dealers with something to gain by testifying against Mr. Carson? Did the FBI offer Mr. Carson a “deal” if he gave false testimony against former Alabama Judge Herman Thomas? Is this standard operating procedure in the FBI Mobile, Alabama branch? Mr. Carson was arrested in March of 2009 and accused of trafficking in cocaine and other drugs using other dealers to distribute the drugs. Carson has maintained his innocence and according to sources, the FBI had little evidence to support their charges. However, his brother Wilbert Carson and another man, Kareem Abdul Cook testified against Leonardo in August and he was convicted largely on their testimony. Family members contend that Leonardo Carson was set up by drug dealers trying to cut a deal with prosecutors. Leonardo’s brother, Wilbert Carson reportedly regrets giving testimony and has tried to commit suicide twice. There are a number of questions remaining about this case as Leonardo waits to appeal his conviction. I hope that we can shed some insight into this case as we hear about these events from Leonardo’s wife, Mrs. Tonya Carson.

The Marijuana Decriminalization Debate Heats Up - Nov 10,2009

Creative Commons Image by Editor B

By Scotty Reid

While the national health care reform debate is front and center on the national stage, another debate is quietly heating up. This debate centers on whether or not marijuana should be decriminalized. The State of California, which already has legalized use for medicinal purposes, has at least three initiatives that are collecting signatures to qualify for the ballot in 2010. If these decriminalization initiatives make it onto the 2010 ballot and approved by voters, decriminalization could become the centerpiece of national debate. On August 24, 2007, a medicinal marijuana user asked then Senator Obama, if States moved to legalize marijuana, would it be wrong for him to go to prison for using something his State has decriminalized. President Obama’s answer was that he would not direct the Justice Department to prosecute or conduct raids on medical marijuana facilities, as “it’s not a good use of federal resources”. While then Senator Obama said he would not use federal resources to go after facilities, he did not say if individual medicinal users would be prosecuted. With the very strong possibility of total decriminalization in California coming possibly in 2010, President Obama and Attorney General Eric Holder have a federal policy decision to make.

President Bill Clinton admitted using marijuana, but disingenuously claimed he did not inhale, President Obama has also admitted that he smoked and inhaled marijuana in attempts to self medicate. With America leading all nations in incarceration of its citizens, a large majority have been convicted of simple drug possession. The cost to taxpayers to house these prisoners has been tremendous and the War on Drugs, which has been raging since the Nixon administration, has done nothing to reduce marijuana use or stop it from entering the country. With hundreds of billions spent during the past three decades, if law enforcement was under a results oriented contract, I suspect they would have long ago had those contracts canceled.

Sherwood Ross reports that 800,000 Americans are busted annually for possessing marijuana alone. This is a huge drain on law enforcement, the court system and taxpayers. Ross wrote that “every 36 seconds” someone is arrested “on marijuana charges, with a record 872,000 arrests made in 2007”. One thing should be pointed out that he does not cover in his article and that is the fact that the private prison industry is booming in America with many politicians owning stock in these corporations.

In 2008, Dick Cheney was named in a criminal indictment reported as a stockholder in the Vanguard Group, a private prison company. Members of Congress were found to be invested in companies that were awarded military contracts and I am sure that many who are against decriminalization of marijuana hold financial stake in the prosecution, conviction and incarceration of citizens under current state and federal laws. I believe before any honest debate on the issue can be had, public officials must reveal any such ties to the prison industry.

Corporate Media Promoting A Culture of Corruption II - Parents Television Council Takes Aim At Gossi - Nov 07,2009

This Sunday on Black Teen Empowerment Radio we are doing Culture of Corruption II. You may or may not be aware of the media buzz surrounding the upcoming episode of "Gossip Girls" on the CW network but the Parents Television Council wants you to know that it does not find the program to be suitable for family viewing.

Time: November 8, 2009 from 3pm est to 4:30pm est
Location: Black Talk Radio Network Internet Outlets
Phone: 1-218-862-7200 ext 629990

Our special guest this Sunday will be Melissa Henson who is the Director of Communication and Public Education for the Parents Television Council.

PTC Summary of Gossip Girls:

Production Companies: 17th Street Productions
Producers: Bob Levy, Josh Schwartz, Leslie Morganstein, and Stephanie Savage Creators:

Josh Schwartz Sex continues to be the main source of concern for parents. The show conveys the message that sex is a tool used to manipulate people. Real consequences are non-existent in this fantasy world and the characters play musical chairs with their sex-partners, but suffer no physical or psychological ramifications. Though graphic simulated sex scenes are only sprinkled throughout the season, there are plenty of provocative kissing scenes, erotic situations, and skimpy clothing. Drugs and alcohol are omnipresent on the show though none of the characters are legally old enough to drink. Read More

Early Morning - Late Night Disscussions - Political and Social Issues - Nov 05,2009

I'm thinking about the 2010 Census and what it means for all communties but especially communities of color. Does President Obama get credit for stimulus money given to the Black Aids Institute? Why do some Negroes insist the Prez doesn't do anything for Black people? What's their game? Why do Conservatives continue to lie about a variety of issues? I heard Pastor Huckabee tell bald faced lies about the openess of the health care debate on Capitol Hill. Will talk about whatever else comes to my mind on this informal, unprofessional vent session. By the way, don't trust corporate media and definitely always question Internet Bloggers and Talkers who don't do five minutes worth of topical research.

Corporate Media Promoting A Culture of Corruption - Lil Wayne, Lil Boosie Going To Prison, SouljaBoy - Oct 26,2009

Black Talk Radio Network™ "New Media for the New Millennium" Lil Boosie pleads to marijuana possession and gun charges and will spend one year in prison, will Warner Brothers still release and promote his album? Lil Wayne pleads to felony gun charges, will spend one year in prison and his record company which he has been with since he was a teen, says it will stand by his side. SouljaBoy gets arrested at a video shoot at an abandoned house and thinks its all a joke or maybe it was a publicity stunt involving other teens. Some say rap music has nothing to do with leading our youth down the wrong path that ultimately will end in prison or death. How much of an impact does it have on youth. Who has a bigger influence on our youth, Pop culture or Parents? 11-year-old Jonathan McCoy is out to abolish the n-word. In a Youtube video that has gone viral he says "It is implausible that 40 years after the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., that we still use this word that holds no worth in our lives and our future." Mmmmm….could the wide use and acceptance of the n-word have anything to do with Rap music, the FCC and the recording industry? Ty Hobson-Powell is a 14-year-old Howard University student who at the age of 4-years old began to learn Chinese. What does the future hold for this young man of great accomplishments?

Federal Investigation Called For In Mitrice Richardson Case

Winamp Real Player QuickTime
The missing persons case of Mitrice Richardson, a young African American woman has prompted calls for an federal investigation into her disappearance. A Change.org petition has been created by Nancy Lockhart of Wrongful Convictions and the goal is just 5,000 signatures.
The father of Mitrice Richardson was recently on Black Talk Radio's National News and Views to give additional information that had been held back detailing the questionable and possibly negligent actions of the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriffs Department. For instance, why did the authorities have possession of Mitrice's purse with credit cards and a bank card when she allegedly was arrested for failure to pay her restaurant bill? When a woman is so anxious to leave as they claim, without her purse, should that not have thrown up red flags? Why did a person who was also being held by the authorities come out and say that she was the only person besides Mitrice in the jail that night if Mitrice was released due to over crowding? What kind of police station or jail allows the video surveillance equipment "run out of tape"? Additional analysis provided by private investigator Mr. Tony Michael Wallace of Internal Surveillance Investigation and Security, Inc. Why is the National Coalition of Latino Clergy and Christian Leaders Boycotting 2010 Census? - Oct 23,2009

The National Coalition of Latino Clergy and Christian Leaders is calling for a boycott of the 2010 Census. Is this a right wing group helping Conservatives? Minorities are said to be under counted when a Republican is in the oval office. USA TODAY reports: The crackdown on illegal immigrants at the border and in the workplace may deter the estimated 12 million illegal immigrants from participating. Although most Hispanic rights groups support participation in the Census, the National Coalition of Latino Clergy and Christian Leaders is urging a boycott to pressure lawmakers to change laws and create ways for illegal immigrants to gain legal status. The group claims that undocumented immigrants do not benefit politically or economically from being counted in the Census. Is this true? It is well know that undocumented workers can not participate in elections by voting but do they benefit economically? Do undocumented immigrants children go to school? Do undocumented immigrants use police, fire, medical and transportation services in the communities in which they live? Is CONLAMIC asking documented Hispanic immigrants and Americans of Hispanic descent to boycott the Census also? These are some of the questions we will attempt to ask Rev. Miguel Rivera who is the chairman of CONLAMIC. If illegal immigrants are not counted in the Census, how will this have a negative impact on the communities in which they live? Should residents of Black communities care? Megan Williams is reportedly recanting her story about being rape, tortured and abused at the hands of a White west Virginia family. Besides having a mental disability, Megan Williams bore the physical evidence of her ordeal and perhaps is lying now. Why blame Al Sharpton? Plus update on Herman Thomas case.

NewsOne Features The Black Talk Media Project - Oct 21,2009

The Black Talk Media Project, creators of the Black Talk Radio Network was a featured member earlier this month on the website NewsOne which is part of the Black Planet Family of websites.

It is not like we won the lottery or anything but we are happy that as a start up non profit new media company with very limited resources and volunteers, some people are taking notice of what we are doing. The Black Talk Media Project maintains several blogs and profiles on several networks where we publish our content in order to effectively spread the message of better Black media for the masses.

The president and founder of the Black Talk Media Project, Scotty Reid was surprised to see our profile featured on a website whose content we have been critical of in the past as it relates to youth. Recently we posted a blog on Black Planet about Rev. Al Sharpton becoming a opinion blogger for NewsOne and we suggested that he use his influence to make them aware that they are marketing to youth through Black Planet and should be conscious of the content. However we are appreciative of the recognition by NewsOne staff.

We understand that everyone may not agree with our stance on media and how it is negatively impacting our society but we are trying in a positive way to make parents and youth aware of media influence.

Other News: The Black Talk Media Project recently secured a grant from the Southern Coalition for Social Justice for the purpose of producing media related to the importance of minorities taking part in the 2010 Census.

We would have done our best to produce the media without the small grant but we are very appreciative of SCSJ for believing in our vision on how to use media to get the message out.

We are also going to begin talks with the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund about partnering with them to reach out to the Hispanic community pertaining to the upcoming Census.

We look forward to possibly working with them to do our part to make sure our often mixed communities know how important it is to take part in the 2010 Census.

We are a very small non profit organization and we are doing our best to work with limited resources but we could do a lot more if we could get some financial help from our Black Talk Radio Network members. Even if you are only able to give $1 a month, it would go a long way as we know how to stretch a dollar and get the most out of it. If you would like to become a business sponsor please see our Be A Sponsor section.

With your help we could open our first media center for youth in Rocky Mount, NC by next year. We are just beginning to work with some of the Rocky Mount youth in partnership with the Rocky Mount Opportunities Industrial Center which has given us space to use on Saturdays. We would like to have our own building with computers and other media equipment in order to expand our programs for youth in training them on new media technologies and citizen journalism.
In order for the vision to become a reality, we need your help!

PRINCESS NELL NELL and KID KJ - CLEAN MUSIC FOR KIDS MOVEMENT - Oct 19,2009

Originally aired on the Black Talk Radio Network's Black Teen Empowerment Radio. JZau-Nelle, A.K.A. Princess Nell Nell, is on a mission to clean up music for children one song at a time. She started this personal movement in response to her parents refusal to let her listen to the popular rap/hip hop songs. The songs were laden with profanity and adult sexual themes. So JZau-Nelle asked her mother to make up different words that went along with the beat of the songs. She began rapping the songs with the different words. She became so good at it her mother decided to allow her to sing it for others. JZau-Nelle wanted other children to hear their favorite songs in a different light, a clean one. Other children not only applauded her efforts, they absorbed it. Wherever she went to perform, more and more children would be there to see her. She embarked on a Boys and Girls Club tour to reach as many children as possible. Children from New York to Deep South Alabama were being reached by clean music. Children from the West Coast reached out to JZau-Nelle through email and personal letters. Parents inquired about Princess Nell Nell next performance and appearances. Finally the first contact came from Europe. This solidified it. This was bigger than JÃZau-Nelle. This is a movement to clean up rap music.
